The Schneider Electric P3U is a universal MV protection relay combining feeder, motor and transformer protection functions in a single hardware platform, designed for projects where standardising on one relay type across all bay applications reduces spare parts inventory, simplifies engineering and streamlines commissioning. By configuring the P3U via software for either feeder (ANSI 50/51/50N/51N/67/67N), motor (46/49/48/51LR/66) or transformer differential (87T) applications, the same physical relay covers all bay types in a switchboard without hardware variants. The relay provides IEC 61850 Edition 1 and Edition 2 Ethernet communication with Modbus RTU, DNP3 and IEC 60870-5-103 as alternative protocols, arc flash detection capability and the IEC 62443 cybersecurity framework. Four voltage transformer inputs and three or four current transformer inputs cover the measurement requirements of all three application types within the same hardware. Typical applications include industrial MV switchgear projects with mixed feeder, motor and transformer bays where procurement simplification justifies the universal relay approach, panel builder applications where a single relay type across all bays simplifies testing and documentation, and project situations where bay function assignments may not be finalised at the time of relay procurement, requiring flexibility to assign any relay to any bay type during installation.
