Distribution Operators
Secondary substations and MV feeder networks
The Challenge
Distribution system operators face the dual pressure of maintaining supply continuity and complying with increasingly strict power quality standards. Secondary substations must be equipped with reliable voltage indication to ensure safe switching, while feeder networks need fast fault detection to minimise outage duration. As grids become more complex with distributed generation, protection relay settings and communication protocols must evolve accordingly.
How We Help
We specify IEC 62271-213 compliant capacitive voltage indicators from Orion EE for secondary substation safety, fault passage indicators for cable network fault location, and Schneider Electric or ABB protection relays for feeder overcurrent and earth fault protection. For PQ compliance reporting we specify Janitza Class A and Class S analyzers. Each recommendation is matched to the network type — isolated neutral, compensated or solidly earthed.
