The Relion 630 series is ABB's most advanced withdrawable protection and control platform for demanding substation and large industrial applications where a single device must combine full bay protection with integrated control, measurement and IEC 61850 substation automation. The series covers five application types in the same withdrawable form factor: feeder (REF630), transformer (RET630), motor (REM630), busbar (REB630) and generator (REG630). Each model includes backup memory that stores the complete configuration, enabling relay replacement in under ten minutes without re-engineering — a critical advantage in live utility and industrial environments where downtime must be minimised. The platform supports dual Ethernet with PRP and HSR redundancy protocols for highest-availability SCADA and inter-relay communication. I/O capacity significantly exceeds the 615 series, covering applications that require extensive interlocking logic, position indication and bay control functions. Integrated cybersecurity with role-based access control and audit logging meets the requirements of utility and critical infrastructure automation projects. All engineering is performed via PCM600 and the relay supports the complete IEC 61850 function model including GOOSE for peer-to-peer protection tripping, MMS for SCADA integration and horizontal communication between protection zones.
