Relion 630 Series
ABB Relion 630 Series Protection Relays

ABB Relion 630 Series covers comprehensive feeder, transformer, motor and generator protection, control and measurement with REF630, RET630, REM630 and REG630. Availability must be confirmed per project.
About this product
ABB Relion 630 Series was developed for demanding utility and industrial applications requiring extensive protection, control, measurement, supervision, and bay automation. The Forvis Trade scope covers four models — REF630 for feeder protection, RET630 for transformer protection, REM630 for motor protection, and REG630 for generator protection.
Platform structure
- REF630: feeder protection and control for overhead lines and cable feeders in radial, looped, and meshed systems.
- RET630: transformer protection and control for two-winding power transformers, step-up transformers, and generator-transformer units.
- REM630: motor protection and control for medium and large asynchronous and synchronous motors.
- REG630: generator protection and control for small and medium generators and generator-transformer units.
All four models share the 630 Series' extensive I/O and bay-automation platform; what differs is the protection function set and analogue interfaces specific to each application.
Model selection
REF630 is a comprehensive feeder management relay covering advanced feeder protection, earth-fault protection, fault location, bay control, extensive I/O, and optional RTD or mA interfaces.
RET630 covers transformer differential protection (87T), thermal overload protection (49), voltage protection, hot-spot and insulation-ageing monitoring, and optional automatic voltage regulation for an on-load tap changer.
REM630 covers machine differential protection (87M), thermal overload protection (49M), motor start-up supervision (48/66), frequency protection, and optional RTD or mA monitoring.
REG630 covers generator differential protection (87G), third-harmonic stator earth-fault protection (64TN), reverse power protection (32R), interconnection protection, and optional RTD or mA monitoring.
Typical applications
- Overhead lines and cable feeders in radial, looped, and meshed networks
- Two-winding, step-up, and generator-transformer units
- Medium and large asynchronous and synchronous motors
- Small and medium generators and generator-transformer units
- Bay automation and extensive I/O applications
Availability and project verification
The reviewed official ABB sources identify REF630, RET630, REM630, and REG630 within the 630 Series. This content does not assign a commercial product status or discontinuation date. Before quotation, a new project, spare-unit request, or modernization study, confirm product availability, support scope, firmware, exact order code, and the appropriate current alternative directly for the project.
Modernization approach
A replacement or modernization study for an installed 630 Series relay should begin with the device order code, firmware, PCM600 configuration, communication architecture, analog inputs, binary I/O, and panel cut-out. A replacement must not be selected from the model name alone. Function equivalence, logic, wiring, and station communication must be checked before quotation or specification.
