REM615 / REM601
ABB Relion REM Series Motor Protection Relay
When MV motor protection is needed — including thermal overload, locked rotor, starts per hour, unbalance and RTD temperature monitoring — the ABB REM series is what we specify. REM601 covers essential motor protection at low cost, while REM615 adds directional earth fault, IEC 61850 Ethernet communication and machine differential protection for larger or more critical motors.
About this product
The ABB REM series provides MV motor protection covering the full range from essential overcurrent-based functions to advanced differential protection for large critical machines. REM601 is the entry-level model providing time-overcurrent, earth fault, thermal overload (49RMS), locked rotor (51LR), starts per hour (66), negative sequence (46) and undercurrent (37) protection with RS485 communication — the complete set of functions required for the majority of MV motor applications at minimum cost. REM615 adds directional earth fault (67/67N), IEC 61850 Ethernet communication, up to 6 RTD temperature inputs and machine differential protection for larger motors where internal fault detection is required. REM615 is available in four hardware configurations: E (standard IEC), G (global UL/CE), H (high-density I/O) and a motor differential variant. All variants are engineered via PCM600 for consistent parameterisation, testing and post-fault analysis. The relay records start current profiles, thermal state images and disturbance records, enabling both protection coordination verification and predictive maintenance planning. Typical applications include MV motors in pumping stations, compressor drives, fans and industrial process drives. The combination of REM601 for standard applications and REM615 for critical or large motors provides a cost-effective single-vendor approach across mixed motor protection projects in industrial and utility power systems.
