The RET615 provides dedicated MV power transformer protection combining all functions required for two-winding transformer applications in a single relay. The core function set includes biased transformer differential (87T) with CT ratio mismatch compensation and vector group matching, restricted earth fault (87N/64), time-overcurrent (50/51), earth fault (50N/51N), overfluxing (24), thermal overload (49), breaker failure (50BF) and Buchholz/thermostat relay inputs for gas and oil temperature monitoring. This comprehensive function combination is designed for two-winding MV power transformers, step-up transformers and generator-transformer unit protection. Three hardware variants are available: the E variant for standard IEC CT/VT inputs, the G variant with UL and CE global certifications, and the ANSI variant for North American market requirements. All variants communicate via RS485 and IEC 61850 Edition 1 and Edition 2 Ethernet and are parameterised using ABB's PCM600 engineering tool, which supports automatic vector group compensation configuration and differential protection characteristic setting. The relay integrates directly into ABB's PCM600-based substation automation architecture and produces full disturbance records, event logs and metered values for protection studies and post-fault analysis. For projects where transformer differential protection must be combined with IEC 61850 GOOSE inter-trip or extensive bay control requirements, the RET630 from the Relion 630 series provides an upward migration path within the same engineering environment.
