The BR604 is EPCOS/TDK's entry-level 4-stage automatic power factor correction controller, designed for small PFC panels in applications where reactive power correction is required but the load profile is straightforward and 4 switching stages provide sufficient resolution. It provides the fundamental automatic PFC functions — measuring reactive power deficit, switching capacitor stages in and out to maintain the target power factor, and protecting against over-compensation — in a compact package at a lower cost than multi-stage controllers. The numeric LED display shows the current power factor and controller status. The controller uses relay outputs for conventional capacitor switching and accepts a 230V AC auxiliary supply from the panel power supply. It fits the same 138x138mm panel cutout as the BR6000 and BR7000 controllers, allowing the same panel enclosure design to be used across the full EPCOS controller range. Typical applications include LV distribution panels serving commercial and light industrial loads with stable reactive power profiles, small manufacturing facilities where 4 capacitor stages provide adequate correction resolution, and building electrical installations where a simple cost-effective PFC system is required without advanced communication or monitoring features. For applications requiring more stages, 3-phase measurement or RS485 communication, the BR6000 or BR7000 provide the required capability in the same panel form factor.
