Phase-Sync
Phase-Sync Phase Comparator

When two MV network sections must be synchronized before paralleling — or when the existing OVI+ system needs field testing — the Phase-Sync is what we specify. It works with both LRM and HR capacitive voltage indicator systems and complies with IEC 62271-215 for phase comparison applications.
About this product
The Phase-Sync is Orion EE's phase comparison instrument for verifying synchronism between two MV network sections before paralleling, and for testing the correct function of installed OVI+ voltage indicator systems. In switching operations where two MV bus sections must be connected — such as closing a normally-open tie point in a ring network or energising a bus coupler — the Phase-Sync provides the operator with a real-time comparison of voltage magnitude, phase angle and frequency between the two sections, confirming safe paralleling conditions before the switching operation is performed. The instrument is compatible with both LRM and HR (High Resistance) capacitive voltage indicator systems, covering the two main divider technologies used across different MV switchgear manufacturers. It complies with IEC 62271-215 for phase comparison applications and provides clear go/no-go indication for synchronism checking. The same instrument is also used during commissioning and maintenance to verify that OVI+ indicators installed in the switchgear are correctly calibrated and responding to actual network voltage. Typical applications include DSO network operations where ring network tie points are routinely opened and closed for planned switching, industrial facilities where multiple MV incomers or generators must be paralleled, and substation commissioning where protection and indication system testing is required before energisation. The Phase-Sync is supplied as a portable hand-held instrument for use by network operations and maintenance crews.
