PhaseCap HD is EPCOS/TDK's heavy duty self-healing capacitor for automatic power factor correction banks requiring high inrush current tolerance and extended service life in the standard PhaseCap form factor. Based on MKK technology with concentric winding construction, it withstands inrush currents up to 300 times rated current and is rated for up to 10,000 switching operations per year — specifications that place it well above the requirements of most automatic PFC applications using relay-switched contactors. The gas-filled dry design eliminates liquid impregnation, simplifying installation orientation requirements and reducing concerns about fluid leakage during handling and in high-temperature environments. An integrated overpressure disconnector provides safe failure by disconnecting the capacitor from the circuit if internal pressure exceeds safe limits due to a dielectric failure event. PhaseCap HD is available across voltage ratings from 415V to 800V covering common European LV network voltages. Typical applications include industrial LV distribution boards and automatic PFC panels in manufacturing facilities, commercial buildings and utility substations where a higher-specification capacitor provides measurable improvement in lifetime and maintenance interval. PhaseCap HD provides the best balance of performance and cost for the majority of industrial automatic PFC applications where thyristor switching or extreme duty cycles are not required.
