PhiCap is EPCOS/TDK's cylindrical aluminium can capacitor series for fixed and automatic power factor correction in industrial and commercial LV networks. Manufactured using metalized polypropylene film (MKP technology) with biodegradable synthetic ester resin impregnation, PhiCap provides reliable self-healing performance across a range from 1 to 30 kVAr with voltage ratings from 440V to 525V — covering the standard European low voltage network voltages used in industrial and commercial installations. The cylindrical aluminium housing provides a compact and robust enclosure suitable for both panel-mounted and floor-standing PFC configurations. PhiCap is available in single-phase and three-phase configurations, with a pre-mounted ceramic discharge resistor that discharges the capacitor to below 50V within 60 seconds of disconnection as required by IEC 60252. Four duty level variants are available: Normal Duty for standard applications, Heavy Duty for higher switching frequency applications, Heavy Duty SIG for enhanced inrush tolerance, and EHD with gas impregnation for maximum inrush current capability. Typical applications include fixed capacitor banks for improving the power factor of individual motor feeders, automatic PFC panels in light industrial and commercial installations, and new switchboard designs where a compact cylindrical capacitor is specified. PhiCap is widely stocked and available in a broad range of standard kVAr and voltage ratings, making it suitable for both new panel builds and replacement of failed capacitors in existing PFC installations.
