It covers ANSI 50/51/50N/51N functions, communicates via RS485 with IEC 60870-5-103 or Modbus, and fits in a compact flush-mount case with IP54 protection.

About this product

The Schneider Electric P1F is a compact MV feeder protection relay designed for utility distribution substations and industrial power systems requiring ANSI 50/51/50N/51N overcurrent and earth fault protection with RS485 communication in a low-cost, easy-to-install package. Its primary application is the replacement of ageing electromechanical overcurrent relays in existing switchgear panels — providing digital accuracy, trip characteristic flexibility, event logging and RS485 communication to SCADA systems while fitting in the same panel space as the original relay without modifications. The IP54 compact flush-mount case protects against panel dust and humidity ingress. Four configuration variants address the range of feeder protection I/O requirements: P1F-A for minimal installations with four relay outputs only; P1F-B adding RS485 communication; P1F-C with six relay outputs and four digital inputs; and P1F-D providing the full configuration with six outputs, eight inputs and directional earth fault (67N) for isolated or compensated neutral networks. All variants support two setting groups and communicate using IEC 60870-5-103 or Modbus RTU protocols. Typical applications include DSO distribution feeder protection retrofit programs across secondary substations, industrial MV switchgear outgoing feeder protection for motors, transformers and cable feeders, and utility-scale renewable energy collection grid protection. The P1F is specified when the application requires reliable overcurrent protection with SCADA connectivity at minimum cost, and when the advanced functions of the P3F and P5 series are not required.
