About this product

The Schneider Electric P3F is an advanced MV feeder protection relay covering the complete set of functions required for directional feeder protection in utility distribution and industrial power systems with IEC 61850 substation automation. Beyond the core overcurrent and earth fault functions, the P3F adds directional phase overcurrent (67) and earth fault (67N) for meshed and multi-source networks, arc flash detection via optional external light point sensors, active and reactive power measurement (32), thermal overload protection (49), LPCT/LPVT low-power sensor compatibility and full IEC 61850 Edition 1 and Edition 2 Ethernet communication with DNP3 and Modbus as alternatives. A built-in virtual injection test capability allows protection settings to be verified by simulating test currents and voltages internally without requiring a secondary injection test set, significantly reducing commissioning time on projects with large numbers of similar protection relays. IEC 62443 cybersecurity standards are supported with role-based access control and secure communication, meeting the requirements of utility and critical infrastructure projects. Typical applications include MV feeder bay protection in DSO distribution substations with IEC 61850 automation systems, industrial primary switchgear feeders in oil and gas, petrochemical and heavy industry where directional earth fault and IEC 61850 GOOSE inter-tripping are required, renewable energy substation feeder protection, and retrofit of existing switchgear where Ethernet-based SCADA integration is being introduced alongside relay replacement.
