About this product

The Schneider Electric P3M is an advanced MV motor protection relay providing the complete function set for protecting medium voltage motors in industrial and utility applications. It combines all essential motor protection functions — thermal overload (49), overcurrent (50/51), earth fault (50N/51N), locked rotor (48), starts per hour (66), unbalance (46), undercurrent (37) and temperature measurement via RTD inputs — with directional earth fault (67N) for motors in networks with isolated or compensated neutral earthing, and optional arc flash detection on the P3M32 variant. IEC 61850 Ethernet communication enables integration with substation automation and SCADA systems for motor status reporting, trip reason recording, start count logging and running hour accumulation. The thermal model continuously tracks motor thermal state including the effects of repeated starts, unbalanced supply and ambient temperature, providing trip anticipation warnings before thermal tripping occurs and enabling more accurate motor protection without unnecessarily conservative settings. Typical applications include MV motors in pumping stations, compressors, fans, mills, centrifuges and process drives in industrial and utility environments from approximately 500kW to several MW. The P3M is specified wherever MV motor protection requires directional earth fault, IEC 61850 communication or arc flash detection, and where the motor is critical enough to justify the full protection function set for minimum unplanned downtime.
