The Challenge
Renewable energy installations face strict grid connection requirements that demand high-accuracy power quality measurement, fast protection response and reactive power capability. Wind farm collector systems and solar plant MV networks require feeder and transformer protection relays with directional earth fault functions. Grid operators increasingly require IEC 61850 communication and Class A power quality reporting at the point of common coupling.
How We Help
For renewable energy protection we specify ABB REF615 or Schneider Electric PowerLogic P3F and P5x30 relays with IEC 61850 and LPCT/LPVT sensor capability. For Class A power quality reporting at the PCC we specify Janitza UMG 512-PRO. For reactive power compensation at the LV collector level we specify EPCOS/TDK PhaseCap Energy Plus capacitors with BR7000 controllers rated for high switching frequency.
